Sensual Memes takes the strange, fleeting language of the internet and slows it right down. I translate memes into embroidery—something fast, ironic, and disposable becomes patient, tactile, and human. It’s about the way we perform emotion online, how desire and control get tangled up, and what happens when you give those feelings a body.

Sensual Memes began as a way of making sense of how we feel online. The humour, the irony, the endless scroll—it’s all so fleeting, yet it quietly rewires how we understand intimacy, connection, and control. I started translating fragments of that language into embroidery to see what happens when you slow it down—when something disposable is given the weight of time and touch.
There’s a tension in that act of translation. The phrases might make you laugh, but they also expose how reality itself has become aestheticised; how emotion is performed, consumed, and repackaged. Stitching them turns that cycle inside out.
For me, these works sit somewhere between tenderness and resistance. They’re sensual in the way touch is sensual, but political in the way slowness can be. Each one asks what’s left of our digital selves when you strip away the noise and hold the feeling still for a moment.
